PROOF READING / EDITING

PROOFREADING / EDITING

In today's highly competitive market, having your work checked by a professional proofreading and editing service ensures professional results.

A document or website that contains spelling mistakes, poor punctuation and awkward sentence structure is unprofessional and can ultimately result in the loss of potential customers, or in points being taken off your thesis. If the content of your work is not clear your words will lose their impact, and ultimately your reader.

Once a badly proofed document is published or submitted it is too late to change it! Whether you have written a business document, advertising copy or an academic thesis, Intelligent Verbatim is here to help!

Why struggle with grammar and spelling when our experienced proofreaders and editors are on hand to spot mistakes and rectify them? We will help you present your work to its best advantage.

Proofreading (perusal)- This is searching for surface errors such as typos, spelling mistakes and blatant grammatical errors and marking them on the text (or on-screen), for the client's attention without necessarily changing anything. This enables you, the client to decide which of the changes you want to apply - without having to guess what we've done to the original document. This is the cheapest services and is often quoted for on a per-page basis.

Copy editing (correction)- We first conduct a basic proof and then go on to look for poor syntax, poor general structure, repetition, redundancy, contradiction or inconsistency. This is done on-screen so that we can use Microsoft's ‘Track Changes' function or a similar device, like highlighting in colour, to (a) make the changes and (b) clearly illustrate what's been changed, for your reference.

Understandably, copy editing costs more than proofing, because it takes about three times as long and includes a basic proof as well.

Rewriting:
This is the biggest and most time-consuming part of an editor's job and involves rewriting phrases, sentences, paragraphs or sections to achieve better flow, more coherence, clearer logic, more appropriate vocabulary or, if necessary, to add more meat to the bones of a skinny piece.
