Recording: we record  disciplinary hearings, interviews, meetings and conferences.
Documents are transcribed “intelligent verbatim” or to client’s request,  in any audio format,. We guarantee a 98% or higher rate of accuracy with decent to good audio.

We also split VIDEO to AUDIO for transcription.

We offer both standard and urgent service. Transcripts are emailed as a Microsoft Word document unless otherwise specified.

Time coding is not provided unless requested, and will come at an additional charge.

Size of Project & Turnaround Time:

We offer standard turnaround times of 48 hours,  one week and  two weeks on any transcription.
A large transcription project of over eight hours of recording puts pressure on our system. Here is how you can help:
  • Add one day for every additional hour of recording over four hours for a regular turnaround period.
  • Stagger your transcription whenever possible. For example, if you are planning to interview several people / conduct a hearing / run a conference  over an extended period do not wait for all recording to be completed before you submit your files for transcription. Upload your audio files as soon as each  interview / hearing to adjournment / session is completed until all audio is uploaded.
RATES

Standard: (3-4 days per hour of audio): R7.05 per audio minute.
Rush service: (1-2 days per hour of audio): R 7.40 per audio minute.
Urgent: (Within 24 hours): R8.40 per audio minute.
Medical transcription: Medical or scientific terminology requires research at times, so an additional R1.50 per audio hour on the above rates is charged on medical transcription.
Industry-specific technical terms and jargon: The above additional charge also applies to non-standard technical terms and jargon.

Student rate (to bone fide full-time students – 10% below normal rates.

Poor quality audio takes up to six times longer to transcribe so an additional cost of R1 to R5 per audio minute will be charged for poor quality, barely audible audio. This includes loud foreground hum, excessive noises and poor recording.  We can ‘tweak’ bad audio to a certain extent, but is not always possible to improve the audio quality.

GUIDELINES - AUDIO RECORDING
  • Add one day for every additional hour of recording over three hours for a regular turnaround period.
  • Audio recorders produce the best quality audio. Large tape recorders have better audio quality than small tapes, which have the poorest quality audio.
  • Place your recording device (recorder, laptop & mike/s etc.) on an impact-absorbing surface like a telephone book to minimize the sound of files being put down, glasses being set on the table, people drumming their fingers, shuffling etc.
  • Make sure that your recording device is aimed at the person speaking as far as possible, and sit as close to the speakers as possible.
  • Sitting at the opposite end of a table to the participants will result in faint, barely audible or inaudible audio. As far as possible, sit among the participants.

Files use less of your upload bandwidth if they are converted to mp3 format. However we will transcribe from any audio format.
